Retired Colonel Juan Pou, brother of former minister of the Armed Forces Joaquin Antonio Pou Castro, who was sentenced to 12 years in jail for the murder of journalist Orlando Martinez, told journalists yesterday that former minister of the Armed Forces, Ramon Emilio (Milo) Jimenez should be in jail for the crime. Pou said that "the responsibility of Milo Jimenez denigrates the institution." He said that the court should have sentenced him for the crime and not his brother Joaquin Antonio, who "was only following orders." "I consider that he should have assumed the responsibility and not be irresponsible, because he knows that when a superior gives an order one has to fulfill it and my brother acted in his own defense," he said. In his opinion, his brother is in jail because the case was not duly investigated. In his opinion, if the case were thoroughly investigated, who and why Orlando Martinez was killed would surface. The retired colonel said that Milo Jimenez did not have to get involved in politics, and thus did not have to order the persecution of Orlando Martinez, unless he had received an order from the President at the time.
